Pollution and waste are taking a heavy toll on the environment. Sadly, Catalonia is hardly at the vanguard of environmental awareness. Since 1992 there has been a 40% rise in carbon dioxide emissions, while old nuclear power stations provide 60% of the region’s electricity.
