General Information » Places To Stay » Hotels

Bahrain has a smaller number of hotels than most of its neighbours, but they cover the full range from unrated hotels with the most basic accommodation, to five-star, international-standard establishments. The lower-rated hotels vary in quality; generally the older ones are a bit run down, but they are cheap. The four and five-star hotels offer very good facilities and service, and are quite reasonably priced for what you get, particularly compared to the European market. The only ‘beach’ hotels are the Novotel, Al Bander and the Ritz Carlton, along with the Mövenpick, which has a beach on an inland lagoon near the airport, while the other five-star hotels are ‘city hotels’ more suitable for business travellers, although they all have swimming pools and gym facilities. While some hotels have websites, it is easier to make reservations on the phone. The classification system is largely in line with international standards and is monitored by the government. Hotel prices range from BD 20 per night for a double room in a one-star hotel, up to BD 1,700 per night for a chalet at the Ritz Carlton. However, beware of hotel prices during the F1 weekend at the beginning of April. As previously mentioned, hotel prices skyrocket then, with most hotels only accepting bookings for a five-night F1 package at five or six times the normal rate.
