Cash is still the preferred method of payment, although the use of credit and debit cards is becoming more widespread. Most shops and restaurants will accept cash or credit cards, although in the souk area, cash is by far the preferred form of payment (and often the only accepted method). The Saudi riyal is readily accepted everywhere, at a rate of just over 10 Saudi riyals to one dinar. As the dinar is pegged to the US dollar, dollars will often be accepted as a last resort. However, outside of hotels, this would generally be an exception, not the rule.
