General Information » Essential Info » Crime & Safety

The crime rate in Bahrain has historically been very low and it is often one of the first things that new residents comment on. However, it has risen in the last couple of years, particularly petty crime against low-income foreign workers and smash-and-grab offences against parked cars in the Exhibition Road area. Be discreet with large amounts of cash, your belongings and travel documents; keep anything valuable in the hotel safe. There are few tricksters about, but be sensible. Road safety is definitely a major issue in Bahrain.

With people from all over the world on the roads, there are a number of different and exotic styles of driving about. Your best bet is to drive according to international traffic regulations, but expect to encounter aggressive habits from fellow road users. Make sure your insurance is current and never drive without your licence on you.
