General Information » Essential Info » Children

Children are a visible part of daily life in Bahrain and you often see families out with children until even quite late at night. This can be somewhat irritating if you are in the cinema watching a tense adult thriller and there’s a crying baby whose parents are determined not to miss a minute of the film.

Shopping malls and hotels cater for families with play areas and sometimes extra entertainment, particularly at weekends or during holidays. The daily newspapers have ‘What’s On’ sections and hotels tend to advertise if they are having a special activity. On Wednesdays, the GDN features several pages of upcoming events.

Most long-term visitors belong to social clubs in Bahrain and that’s where they tend to spend family time, but there are a few public park areas, such as Andalous Gardens, the Manama Corniche and the Marina Club Corniche. Restaurants are often fairly welcoming to families and have children’s menus.
