Bahrain is currently experiencing a construction boom with business, shopping, tourism and residential developments underway throughout the kingdom. The major developments are:

Bahrain Financial Harbour (BFH)

BFH is a $1.3 billion integrated financial community development being built on 380,000 square metres of reclaimed land adjacent to Manama’s existing commercial centre. The development will incorporate commercial, residential and leisure components (hotels, shops, restaurants, and a marina). Construction started in 2004 and is scheduled for completion in 2009. Phase one is already well advanced and the remainder of the 10 phases will be completed in stages over the next four years. Non-Bahrainis can buy properties on the development and will be entitled to indefinite residence permits for as long as they retain ownership.

Durrat Al Bahrain

Durrat is a 20 square kilometre city resort development on 13 islands of reclaimed land to the south of Bahrain Island and 35 minutes drive from Manama. The development will incorporate 2,000 villas, 3,000 apartments, hotels, promenades, shops, restaurants, a marina, a golf course, sporting facilities, spas and entertainment venues. Development has been ongoing for several years and will continue until 2009/2010. Pre-sales for the first phases have already taken place.

Amwaj Islands

Amwaj is a 2.8 square kilometre residential and resort development on reclaimed land adjacent to Bahrain International Airport and a short drive from Manama across the new bridge and Muharraq Ring Road. The development will incorporate canal-side villas and apartments, hotels, shops, restaurants, marinas and a theme island. Development began in 2001 and the reclamation will be completed in 2006. The first residents will move into their premises in 2006. Pre-sales for the first five phases have already taken place. Non-Bahrainis can buy properties on the development and, as in the BFH, will be entitled to indefinite residence permits for as long as they retain ownership.

Al Areen

Al Areen is a $750 million integrated residential and leisure development being built on 2,000,000 square metres of land at Al Areen Wildlife Park, 35 minutes drive from Bahrain International Airport. The development will incorporate luxurious themed hotels, therapeutic medical services, sports, residential, entertainment and leisure facilities.
