There is no risk of getting malaria in the city of Abu Dhabi. However, the female anopheles mosquito (the one that carries malaria) has been spotted occasionally in the mountain and wadi areas of the UAE. The risk can be seen as so small that it may be preferable just to avoid being bitten (by using repellant and wearing suitable clothes), rather than take a course of anti-malarial medication.
