General Information » Essential Info » Crime & Safety

While the crime rate in Abu Dhabi is very low, a healthy degree of caution should still be exercised. Keep your valuables and travel documents locked in your hotel room or in the hotel safe. When in crowds, be discreet with your money and your wallet, don’t carry large amounts of cash on you and don’t trust strangers offering to double your money with magic potions. Money and gem related scams are on the increase – be warned!

With a multitude of driving styles converging on Abu Dhabi’s roads, navigating the streets either on foot or in a vehicle can be a challenge. Here are some quick tips to make your experience on the streets safer: if your taxi driver is driving too aggressively, tell him to slow down, cross the roads only at designated pedestrian crossings, and before you cross, make sure all cars have actually stopped for you, learn the rules of the road before getting behind the wheel and drive defensively, make sure you have insurance!
