General Information » Entering United Arab Emirates » Leaving United Arab Emirates

Most airlines recommend you confirm your onward flights at least 72 hours before departure. All major airlines have offices in Abu Dhabi, or you can contact the airport helpline on 5757500.

If you are using the City Terminal facilities in town, check-in before departure can be as much as 8 hours prior to your flight (24 hours if using Golden Class service), but a minimum of 3. During this time, you are welcome to use the lounge facilities, these offer light refreshments, showers, a 24-hour travel agency and a business centre. Security formalities and baggage check-in can be done here. Use of the City Terminal is free for some First and Business Class passengers, others are able to use it through Golden Class services.

Check-in, at the airport, should be at least 2-3 hours before the flight time if you are travelling economy class, though less time is required if you are travelling first or business class.

Check-in for unaccompanied minors (children travelling alone, who are between the ages of 5 and 12) is 2 hours prior to the flight, and will take place at separate check-in counters. Children, and families travelling with children, are generally boarded first. Some airlines offer special facilities and services for young passengers, from a companion or nanny, to special meals and play packs. Contact your airline for more information.

Security is a priority, as at all international airports. You will need to ensure you do not pack any potentially hazardous objects in your hand luggage. If you are unsure about what you are allowed to bring on board, check with your travel agent or airline. You will be required to go through a metal detector and your hand luggage will be x-rayed.

It is also recommended that you check the customs and duty regulations of your destination country.
