Wadi Bani Kharus and Al Hijayr

Driving through Wadi Bani Kharus and Wadi al Hijayr is like hopping into a geologist's time machine: the further you go, the older the rocks get, until you've gone back some 600 million years. This is a great pair of wadis to explore: reasonably close to Muscat, with water flowing year round. A good time to visit is in the spring, when peach, apricot and almond blossoms grace the landscape.
